PM eyes self-reliant SPARRSO

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the authorities concerned to transform the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO) into a modern, future-ready and self-reliant institution capable of making meaningful contributions to national security and development.

He issued the directive during a surprise visit to the SPARRSO headquarters at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Agargaon on Sunday morning.

According to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony, the premier arrived at the organisation’s office at around 9:15am.
During the visit, Tarique Rahman toured the organisation’s various departments and exchanged views with its officials and employees.

SPARRSO Chairman Md Rashedul Islam briefed the Prime Minister on the agency’s overall activities, while officials from different departments highlighted their ongoing research, innovations and development initiatives.

The Prime Minister reviewed the organisation’s work in the fields of space science, satellite technology and remote sensing, and emphasised the importance of strengthening its institutional capacity to meet future national requirements.

Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, Defence Secretary Md Ashraf Uddin, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, Private Secretary-2 Md Mehedul Islam, Deputy Press Secretary-1 Jahidul Islam Rony, and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and SPARRSO were present during the visit.

SPARRSO is the country’s national agency responsible for the research, development and application of space science, satellite technology and remote sensing.
