



At least 10,000 retired non-government teachers across the country will soon receive their retirement benefits through the initiative of the government, Secretary of the Non-Government Teachers’ Retirement Benefits Board Principal Mosharraf Hossain said.
He made the announcement while addressing teachers and heads of non-government educational institutions at a reception accorded to him at the Chandpur Press Club auditorium on Sunday afternoon.
The Chandpur district units of the College Teachers’ Association and madrasa teachers’ organisations jointly arranged the reception in honour of Principal Mosharraf Hossain.
In his speech, Principal Mosharraf blamed the previous government for the inordinate delay and procrastination.
in disbursing retirement benefits despite the availability of funds. He said retired teachers had suffered greatly due to the delay in receiving their benefits during the final stages of their lives.
He disclosed that all outstanding retirement benefits for teachers who retired in 2021 had already been paid.
He added that fresh initiatives had been taken to provide retirement benefits to more than 10,000 teachers across the country who retired by 2025.
He further said that the financial assistance would soon be formally handed over to the beneficiaries by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
At the beginning of the programme, Principal Mosharraf Hossain was presented with bouquets and crests by teacher leaders.
Vice-President of the district unit of the Teachers-Employees Oikya Parishad, ABM Shah Alam Tipu, presided over the function.
Among others, Prof. Alamgir Hossain Bahar of Chandpur Government College, Shafiullah Sarkar, headmaster of Raj Rajeswar Omar Ali High School, teacher leader Md Abul Kashem, retired headmaster of Safarmali High School in Chandpur Sadar, Advocate Abdullahil Baki, president of Zia Parishad, journalist Giasuddin Milon, and district BNP leader Munir Chowdhury spoke on the occasion.
