




Sharmin Rahman Rauma is a journalist, television presenter and singer at a time. She, popularly known as Sharmin Rauma, is working with equal dedication in both her singing and journalism careers. She has been working as a senior journalist at BBC for a long time.
Rauma has been fascinated with music since she was a very young child. June 21 was World Music Day.
On this day, a music festival was organised at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture.
In her solo performance, Sharmin Rauma performed the popular Portuguese song ‘Lambada’.
Regarding talking about performing this Portuguese song, Rauma told this correspondent, “World Music Day is a global event celebrating all forms of music and the importance of music in people’s lives.
As far as I know, World Music Day is celebrated in more than 120 countries around the world.
In continuation of this, this day is also celebrated in our country. This festival has been organised at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to share joy with people on World Music Day.
I am very happy that they let me perform the popular Portuguese song ‘Lambada’. Everyone was impressed and enjoyed my song — that’s what I really like.
Thanks and gratitude to the Ministry of Culture and the Shilpakala Academy.” Sharmin Rauma has received numerous awards in recognition of her work in her professional life.
In 2014, she also received awards from outside the country. She received a special award at the 21st Indian Tele Cine Awards.
This award was presented to personalities who have made significant contributions to broadcasting and media in both Bangladesh and India at the event held at Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata, India.
In addition, in the same year, Rauma was honoured with the Channel i Music Award for her song ‘Uru Uru Mon’.
Sharmin Rauma is the Senior Journalist Team Manager for the BBC in Bangladesh. She has been working at BBC since 2016. Two programmes produced by Rauma – ‘BBC Probaho’ (which she also hosts) and ‘Bangladesh Trending’ – are being broadcast regularly.
