The struggle of motherhood was beyond my imagination: Sumaiya Shimu

Sumaiya Shimu is a very popular face on the television screen. She has done numerous dramas in her 27-year long career.

She has also worked on the big screen, but on a very limited scale.

She was so busy in the television world that she did not get the opportunity to work in mainstream films.

Although the actress is not active on any screen now; she has been away from acting for a long time.

But her popularity and fame still exist; the audience has not forgotten this beloved actress.

It is known that she is currently working as a development worker for women’s welfare through her own organisation, Sumaiya Shimu.

Shimu recently joined Rumman Rashid Khan’s podcast, where she spoke openly about her journey of motherhood, challenges, and experiences of being a mother of twins.

Regarding the feeling of becoming a mother for the first time, Shimu said, “The struggle of motherhood was beyond my imagination. Those who are new mothers will be able to relate to my words.

Even before having a child, I was very afraid – what will happen, or not. I was worried all the time.”

She also received special caution from doctors due to having twins. Recalling her mental state at that time, the actress said, “Everyone decides on a name before having a baby.

But I didn’t even decide on a name because I was afraid. I thought, let the baby be first, then I will do everything. At that time, the mind is very soft, many kinds of fears work.”

Shimu said that even after the birth of her children, she did not name them for about three months.

In her words, “Like everyone does, before the baby is born, they decide on a name, but I did not decide on a name out of fear.

I thought that it would become a baby first, and then I would name her comfortably.

But the fact that a girl’s life can change so much after having a child was beyond my imagination.”

She said that it was not easy to handle the responsibility of twins as well as being a first-time mother.

Shimu said, “Since it was a twin baby, the struggle was a lot. For the first three-four months, neither baby sleeps properly.

I put one baby to sleep with great difficulty, then went to the other. Then the first one started crying again. That’s how it went.”
