US Ambassador visits Sonamasjid land port

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen visited the historic Sonamasjid area and its archaeological sites in Shibganj Upazila on Wednesday.

During the visit, the ambassador observed operations at the Sonamasjid Land Port and its immigration facilities. He also held discussions with members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Sonamasjid Border Outpost (BOP), where he inquired about border management and security activities.
While touring the historical relics of ancient Gauda (Gour), the ambassador expressed interest in learning more about the region’s rich history and cultural heritage.

Among those present during the visit were Mohammad Shahjahan, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rajshahi Range; Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Commanding Officer of the 59 BGB Mahananda Battalion; Mazharul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Shibganj; and other concerned officials.
