Adabor OC, SI injured by snatchers

Police fell victim to an attack while attempting to apprehend criminals involved in a robbery where a shop was entered at knifepoint in Adabor, Dhaka.

During a raid on the snatchers’ hideout, Adabor Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Md. Zahidul Islam and Sub-Inspector (SI) Tarun were seriously injured by sharp cleaver blows from the snatchers.

The attack took place on Tuesday afternoon at the snatchers’ hideout behind Delta Garments in Adabor.

At that time, police fired back in self-defense and to bring the situation under control, leaving one snatcher shot.

Four people have been detained from the scene and police are reportedly still present at the location.

Locals said that in the morning, a gang entered a shop in the Adabor area and carried out a sudden robbery at knifepoint using cleavers.

Immediately upon learning of the incident, police identified the criminals’ location and took to the field to arrest them.

In the afternoon, based on a tip-off, a team from Adabor Police Station raided one of the snatchers’ hideouts behind Delta Garments in Adabor.

Upon sensing the police presence, the snatchers launched a sudden attack on the police members with locally made weapons and cleavers.

At one point, OC Zahidul Islam and SI Tarun were wounded by cleaver blows and strikes from the snatchers.

When police fired back in self-defense, one snatcher was shot. Police subsequently cordoned off the scene and managed to detain a total of four snatchers, including the one who had been shot.

Adabor Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Md. Zahidul Islam said that a large police deployment remains in the area to apprehend the criminals and a search operation is ongoing throughout the entire hideout.
