



A workshop titled “Screenwriting, Storytelling Techniques, and the Formation of an Accountability Framework to Ensure Ethics and Professionalism in Film and Media” was held with the participation of teachers, officials, and students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) on Monday.
The workshop commenced on Monday at the conference room of the university’s Old Administrative Building. As the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, was outside the campus on official duties, he joined the event online as the Chief Guest and delivered his speech virtually.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor stated, “Film and media are not merely sources of entertainment; they are powerful instruments for social development and public awareness. Therefore, ensuring ethics, professionalism, and accountability in this sector is of utmost importance.”
He concluded his remarks by expressing sincere appreciation to the organizers and all participants.The keynote paper was presented by distinguished academic, filmmaker, and producer Rafiqul Anwar Russell. Highlighting the importance of storytelling and screenplay writing in filmmaking, he said that a strong and well-structured screenplay serves as the foundation of a successful film, enabling it to present new experiences, ideas, and reflections of reality to audiences.
He also emphasized that in today’s digital era, marked by uncontrolled content, misinformation, and moral degradation, establishing an accountable regulatory framework for film and media has become an urgent necessity.
The discussion session featured Professor Dr. Shah Md. Nistar Jahan Kabir, Chairperson of the Department of Film and Television at Jagannath University, and scriptwriter and filmmaker Mezbah Uddin Sumon as discussants. Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin, Chief Executive Officer of the Bangladesh Film and Television Institute (BFTI), also addressed the audience. The opening remarks were delivered by Md. Mokhles Hossain, Deputy Director (Administration and Finance) of BFTI.
The workshop was chaired by Dr. Zillur Rahman Pal, Chairman of the Department of Film and Media Studies at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University.
