Unusual delay hits Dhaka Metro rail

Metro rail services in Dhaka were suspended for just over 20 minutes on Saturday after a cat suddenly entered a high-voltage track at Shahbagh, forcing authorities to halt operations for safety reasons.

Train services remained suspended from 11:50am to 12:12pm due to the incident, marking an unusual disruption for the network.

While previous interruptions to the metro rail system have typically been caused by technical faults or signalling issues, officials confirmed that this is the first known instance in which an animal triggered a complete network halt. A Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited) official said, “Operations were temporarily suspended for passenger safety.

The cat was rescued unharmed, and services resumed at 12:12pm.”

The unexpected stoppage led to inconvenience for commuters, with queues quickly growing at various stations during the disruption. As the delay continued, many passengers left the stations altogether and opted for alternative transport options to reach their destinations.
