Two police personnel sustained serious stab injuries after coming under attack from suspected muggers during a pursuit operation in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area early Friday.
The injured officers are Sub-Inspector (SI) Shamsuzzoha, 34, of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, and Constable Mohammad Hridoy Hossain, 20, attached to the Public Order and Management Division.
Police said the incident occurred when a patrol team pursued three alleged muggers who were attempting to flee in an auto-rickshaw after reportedly carrying out a mugging in the area.
During the chase, the suspects allegedly attacked the officers with sharp weapons near the Glass Bridge of Zia Udyan, leaving both policemen seriously wounded.
The injured officers were initially taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. They were later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Law enforcers arrested two suspects, identified as Rocky and Raju, at the scene. According to police, Rocky allegedly carried out the stabbing during the assault on the officers.
