KMP hosts BPWN workshop
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) organised a consultation workshop on implementing the Bangladesh Police Women Network (BPWN) Strategic Plan 2024-2027 on Wednesday, aimed at strengthening gender-inclusive policing and enhancing the role of women police officers.
The workshop was held at Lounge-2 of KMP Police Lines in Boyra on Wednesday morning. KMP Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, BPM (Service), inaugurated the programme as the chief guest, while Additional DIG of the Anti-Terrorism Unit Shamima Akter chaired the session.
Addressing the participants, the police commissioner said that enhancing the skills, leadership and participation of women police officers is essential for building a modern, inclusive and citizen-friendly police service.
He stressed ensuring equal opportunities, a gender-sensitive and safe workplace, and encouraging women officers to become financially empowered.
Reaffirming KMP’s zero-tolerance policy against workplace harassment, he also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the Victim Support Centre and Women Help Desk to improve services for women and children. He expressed hope that effective implementation of the BPWN Strategic Plan at the field level would help establish KMP as a model gender-friendly police unit.
Among others present were Additional DIG (Administration and Finance) of Khulna Range Tofayel Ahmed, Prof Dr Nahreen I. Khan of Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka District Superintendent of Police Shamima Parveen, Deputy Police Commissioner Marina Akter, UN Women representative Shrabana Dutta, and senior officials from different police units.
