Christensen meets Dr. Shafiqur
United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen paid a courtesy call on Leader of the Opposition Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday, where the two sides exchanged views on Bangladesh’s political and economic outlook, bilateral relations and opportunities for expanding trade and investment cooperation.
According to a press release, the meeting was held at the Opposition Leader’s office in Parliament and took place in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.
Discussions focused on Bangladesh’s post-election political and economic situation, the proposed national budget and prospects for strengthening economic engagement between Bangladesh and the United States.
The two sides also reviewed broader issues of mutual interest in bilateral relations.
The meeting covered a range of topics, including the development of democratic institutions, governance reforms, economic cooperation and regional and international issues of shared concern.
Both sides expressed optimism that Bangladesh-US relations would continue to deepen on the basis of mutual respect, trust and cooperation.
Representing the US Embassy were Political and Economic Counsellor Eric Geelan and Political Officer Hermanoschy Bernard.
The Opposition Leader was accompanied by his Foreign Affairs Adviser, Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, MP, as well as members of the party’s foreign affairs advisory team, including Ali Ahmed Mabrur.
The meeting reflected the continued engagement between Bangladesh and the United States on political, economic and governance issues, as both countries seek to strengthen bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors.
