National TV exposure planned for young talents
The government is preparing to introduce nationwide television broadcasts featuring the talents of primary school students as part of a broader effort to encourage creativity and cultural development among young learners, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the Dhaka divisional final round of the Primary Education Award-2026, which included sports, cultural activities, subject-based quizzes and cubbing competitions, the state minister said initiatives would be launched from next year to present the performances of talented students before a national audience.
The event was held at the Primary Teachers’ Institute (PTI) in Mirpur, where Bobby Hajjaj attended as the chief guest, according to a ministry press release. “The country’s primary school students possess extraordinary talents… From next year, initiatives will be taken to broadcast programmes on television nationally to help develop their talents,” he said.
He said the government intends to create opportunities for students skilled in singing, dancing, recitation, storytelling and other cultural activities to gain wider recognition. Attractive prizes would also be introduced to further encourage and develop their abilities.
Praising the participants, the state minister said many students demonstrated remarkable talent despite having limited opportunities and facilities.
“Their confidence and talent have impressed me. In the coming days, we want to present their best performances before the nation through better arrangements,” he added.
Bobby Hajjaj said primary school students have the potential to become nationally and internationally recognised artists, cultural figures and creative leaders if given proper support and opportunities.
“The government will extend all-out support to develop that potential,” he said.
He also announced plans to expand the scale of the competitions from next year, with future events expected to be televised so audiences across the country can witness the achievements of young participants.
In addition to increasing prize opportunities for students, the government is considering introducing special incentives for educational institutions. Under the proposed initiative, schools whose students win major awards would receive special grants alongside prizes awarded to the students.
According to the state minister, such measures would encourage teachers and school authorities to play a more active role in identifying and nurturing students’ hidden talents.
He also called on education officials at the upazila, union and local levels to strengthen efforts to promote cultural and creative activities among students and urged them to involve public representatives, media professionals and prominent local citizens in organising competitions to create a more festive environment.
Following the programme, Bobby Hajjaj distributed prizes among students who secured top positions in various divisional-level competitions.
