Book “Tale of Hilsa and a Boy” launches in Chandpur

Chandpur Dhavian (Dhaka University Alumni Association of Chandpur-DUAAC) successfully hosted the grand book launching ceremony for “Tale of Hilsa and a Boy” today at 12:50 pm.

Held in Chandpur, famously celebrated as the “City of Hilsa,” the event marked the release of a rare and distinctive work of fiction dedicated to the Meghna River and its iconic riverine heritage.

“Tale of Hilsa and a Boy” is a research-oriented publication that masterfully blends storytelling with critical environmental advocacy.

The book explores the complex dynamics of the Meghna River, hilsa fish ecosystems, climate resilience, local traditions, and disaster adaptation.

Designed for students, researchers, and general readers, the text serves as an interdisciplinary academic resource aimed at building language proficiency and fostering deep engagement with historical and environmental crises.

Addressing the audience, the author, Md. Habibur Rahman a Dhaka University alumnus, multi-disciplinary researcher, and poet whose recent poetry collection Meghbalikar Lochone Jaltaranggo debuted at the Ekushey Book Fair 2025 expressed his deep gratitude to the organisers.

“This book is intended to serve as a valuable academic and policy resource, particularly for Chandpur, a region whose identity is permanently intertwined with the rich heritage of the Hilsa,” said Rahman.

The publication has already received widespread appreciation from policymakers and academics. Specimen copies have been presented to foreign diplomats, university vice-chancellors, industrial leaders, and high-ranking civil and military officials.
