Covered van crashes into ditch, driver dies

A covered van lost control after one of its tires burst on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, crashing into an electric pole before overturning into a roadside ditch.

The driver, identified as Babul, 50, was killed in the accident, while his assistant (helper) was injured.

The accident occurred at around 8:00 a.m. on Saturday (June 6) in the Nayagaon area of Pirojpur Union on the Dhaka-bound lane of the highway.

The deceased, Babul, was a resident of Dhanbari Upazila in Tangail and the son of the late Sanowar Hossain.

According to police and local sources, the Dhaka-bound covered van suffered a sudden tire burst while in motion.

The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a rural electricity pole beside the highway.

Two electric poles were broken in the impact, and the covered van overturned into a ditch next to the road.

Driver Babul died on the spot, while the helper sustained serious injuries.

Locals and police rescued him and sent him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Kanchpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Shamim Sheikh said police recovered the driver’s body after receiving news of the accident.

The identity of the injured helper has not yet been confirmed.

The damaged covered van has been removed to the roadside, and traffic movement on the highway remains normal. Necessary legal procedures regarding the incident are underway.
