QUBEE joins hands with One Billion Rising to end violence against women

QUBEE, the high-speed wireless internet service provider has partnered with One Billion Rising (OBR), Bangladesh to raise awareness regarding violence against women in Bangladesh, and encourage more private sector engagement in this area. QUBEE is sponsoring an event, on the occasion of International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, which will allow you to RISE and March for the women in your life, or simply for a cause you believe in.
Men and women from different spheres of life will gather and walk for one kilometre, in high heels. The initiative is inspired by the global campaign Walk a Mile in her Shoes and is a statement about men’s role in ending violence against women- an issue that is connected to strict gender roles and expectations of society. High heels have become a predominant symbol of sexuality for women. But, women are breaking out from these restrictions of stereotypes and expectations, claiming their right to choice. One Billion Rising Bangladesh sees “March in her heels”, as an initiative to draw attention on the preconceived roles of a woman and the society that enables various forms of violence. “When we speak of “March in her heels”, we speak of numerous challenges that we face every day such as in the form of street sexual harassment or even cyber harassment as a way to restrain women’s freedom” said Tahmina Shafique, Coordinator, OBR Bangladesh. OBR is a global campaign aiming to create awareness about the issue of violence against women. For the violence to end, it is necessary for people to recognize that this is not only a women’s issue, this is everyone’s issue, and can only be ended by coming forward together.
QUBEE’s sponsorship of the march is accompanied by the launch of a new limited edition connectivity device in OBR colours, titled aptly as QUBEE `Cosmo’. Purchasers of a QUBEE solution with Cosmo will be contributing directly to OBR’s cause toward ending violence against women.
