Srimangal road crash kills pickup driver

A man named Lokman Mia (22) was killed yesterday in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a pickup van on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Srimangal, Moulvibazar.

The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the Satgaon Choumohona area of the upazila on Saturday (June 6). The pickup van was severely damaged in the collision, and its driver sustained critical injuries.

He was later taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The deceased, Lokman Mia, was the son of Shah Alam from the Lalbagh area of the upazila and was driving the accident-involved pickup van.

According to local sources, a passenger bus traveling from Mymensingh to Sylhet attempted to overtake another vehicle in the Satgaon area when it collided head-on with an oncoming pickup van.

Srimangal Fire Service Station Officer Solaiman Akonji said a rescue team quickly reached the spot after receiving the news and used a hydraulic spreader to recover the driver from the vehicle before taking him to Srimangal Upazila Health Complex.

Duty doctor Dr. Nishat Nawab Mumu said the injured man was brought to the hospital around 5:45 a.m., but he had already died before arrival.

Satgaon Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mamun Ahmed confirmed that the pickup driver died on the spot. The bus and pickup van have been seized, and legal procedures are underway.
