Metro rail extends night service from today

In a move aimed at improving commuter convenience, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has extended the operating hours of MRT Line-6 by 20 minutes at night and introduced additional train services in both directions from today.

The decision comes in response to increasing passenger demand for metro rail services, according to DMTCL officials.

Metro Rail Public Relations Officer Mohammad Ahsan Ullah Sharifi said the revised schedule includes one extra trip from each terminal station to accommodate the growing number of passengers using MRT Line-6.

Under the new timetable, the final train departing from Uttara North station for Motijheel will now leave at 9:50 pm, while the last service from Motijheel to Uttara North will depart at 10:30 pm.

Previously, the last train left Uttara North at 9:30 pm and Motijheel at 10:10 pm.

Sharifi said the extended schedule has been introduced following repeated requests from passengers and the steady rise in ridership on the metro network. MRT Line-6, Bangladesh’s first metro rail system, initially began operations on December 28, 2022, on the Uttara North-Agargaon section.

The service was subsequently expanded in phases, with full commercial operations between Uttara and Motijheel commencing on December 31, 2023.

Meanwhile, construction of the Kamalapur station remains underway. Once completed, the station will complete the MRT Line-6 corridor, further strengthening Dhaka’s mass transit network and enhancing connectivity across the capital.
