BD nat’l dies in Delhi blaze

A Bangladeshi citizen was among 22 people from seven countries who died in a fire that swept through a hotel in New Delhi, India, earlier this week, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The victim was identified as Md Nurul Amin, 44. The blaze broke out on June 3 at a hotel in the Indian capital, where a number of foreign nationals were staying.

The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi said it was taking steps to facilitate the swift repatriation of Amin’s body to Bangladesh.

According to the mission, two Bangladeshi families were severely affected by the incident. They had been staying at the hotel while undergoing medical treatment at the nearby Max Hospital.

The High Commission said it has been maintaining regular contact with the affected Bangladeshis and their family members, several of whom are receiving treatment at different hospitals in New Delhi.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah visited Bangladeshi patients admitted to Max Hospital and discussed their condition with attending doctors. He assured them of the mission’s continued support.

Mission officials have been deployed at the hospital on a round-the-clock basis to coordinate with medical personnel, assist the patients and their families, and respond promptly to any emergencies.

The High Commission said it is also working closely with the Indian authorities to ensure that the injured receive the necessary medical care and support.

Bangladeshi diplomats pledged to continue monitoring the situation and providing assistance to all affected nationals as recovery efforts continue.
