3 motorcyclists killed in separate road crashes in Kishoreganj
At least three motorcyclists were killed and another person seriously injured in two separate road accidents in Kuliarchar upazila of Kishoreganj on Tuesday evening and night.
The information was confirmed by Bhairab Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Suman Kumar Chowdhury on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Ashiq (20), son of Emad Mia of Bhabanipur village under Srinagar Union in Bhairab upazila; Russell Mia (18), son of Siddique Mia of Kandigram area in Kuliarchar upazila; and Abdus Sattar (55), a retired army member from Laxmipur Bhatipara village under Gobria-Abdullahpur Union.
The injured person, Yasin, has been admitted to Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur.
According to police and local sources, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a motorcycle in the Madhuarchar area of Kuliarchar upazila on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab regional highway at around 9:00 pm on Tuesday.
The impact of the collision severely damaged the motorcycle, throwing its three riders onto the road and leaving them critically injured.
Locals rushed to the scene and rescued the victims before taking them to Bhagalpur Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur. Doctors on duty declared Ashiq and Russell dead upon arrival, while Yasin remains under treatment.
Locals alleged that reckless speeding and careless driving frequently cause accidents on the highway. They said the risk of accidents increases significantly at night due to heavier traffic and unsafe driving practices.
In a separate incident earlier the same evening, retired army member Abdus Sattar lost his life in a motorcycle accident near an under-construction culvert on the Dumrakanda-Dariakandi road in the upazila.
According to local residents, a deep excavation had been left at the construction site without adequate warning signs, barricades, or lighting.
While riding his motorcycle in the evening darkness, Abdus Sattar reportedly lost control of the vehicle and met with the fatal accident.
Following the incidents, locals called for stronger road safety measures, stricter enforcement against reckless driving, and proper safety precautions at road construction sites to prevent further tragedies.
