Grandmother with two grandsons found dead in Khulna
A tragic incident has sent shockwaves through Khulna city after police recovered the bodies of a grandmother and her two grandsons from a rented house in the Sonadanga area on Saturday evening.
Md. Rafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Sonadanga Police Station ascertained the matter to the Correspondent of The New Nation.
The deceased were identified as Baby Begum, 55, and her grandsons Shamim, 13, and Mustakim, 4.
According to police, the bodies were discovered around 6:00pm at a rented residence owned by Shariful Islam in the Darul Aman neighbourhood on Tamiz Uddin Road under Sonadanga Police Station.
Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Mohammad Zahidul Hasan told The Correspondent of The New Nation that three bodies were recovered from the house in Darul Aman.
“The victims are– Baby Begum and her two grandsons, Mustakim and Shamim. The children’s mother, Fatema Begum, has been taken into police custody for questioning. Based on information provided during preliminary interrogation, her second husband, Rafiqul, has emerged as a person of interest in the case,” he said.
The commissioner added that law enforcement agencies have launched a high-priority investigation and multiple KMP teams are working to locate and arrest the suspects.
Upon receiving information, teams from Sonadanga Police Station, the Detective Branch (DB), and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) rushed to the scene. Investigators collected evidence and examined the crime scene as part of an intensive probe.
Police sources said the two children had been living with their mother, Fatema Begum, 35, following her divorce from her first husband, Masum Bepari, about four years ago. Masum, a resident of Krishnanagar village under Labanchara Police Station in Khulna, is the son of Kashem Bepari.
After the divorce, Fatema married Rafiqul, an inter-district truck driver. The couple reportedly spent time at the residence of Fatema’s mother, where the incident occurred.
