Mercantile Bank celebrates 27th founding anniversary

Mercantile Bank PLC celebrated its 27th anniversary at its Head Office on Tuesday with the bank highlighting its commitment to customer-friendly, technology-based and inclusive banking services.

Bank’s Vice Chairman Al-Haj Akram Hossain (Humayun) inaugurated the programme by cutting a cake as the chief guest, along with Directors and Senior Executives of the bank.

Mercantile Bank Managing Director Mati Ul Hasan delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.
M A Khan Belal, Chairman, Executive Committee; Mohammad Abdul Awal, Chairman, Risk Management Committee; A S M Feroz Alam, Sponsor Director; Professor Dr Mohammad Thoufiqul Islam; and Professor Nasrin Sultana, PhD, Independent Director, also spoke on the occasion.

Deputy Managing Directors Md Zakir Hossain, Shamim Ahmed, Ashim Kumar Saha, Dr Md Zahid Hossain and Tapash Chandra Paul, PhD; Senior Executive Vice Presidents Mohammad Iqbal Rezwan and Md Abdul Halim; Head of Main Branch Md Abdul Awal; and other senior executives of the bank were also present at the ceremony.

On the eve of the 27th anniversary, all divisions of the Head Office cut cakes in a festive manner. At the same time, all MBPLC branches and sub-branches across the country also cut cakes and entertained customers with sweets and snacks.

Speaking at the event, Bank’s Vice Chairman Akram Hossain (Humayun) said Mercantile Bank’s progress across all key indicators showed that it had established itself as a sustainable, reliable and customer-friendly bank through its efforts over the past 27 years.

He urged officials to provide technology-based and customer-friendly banking services while ensuring corporate governance in the coming days.

Managing Director Mati Ul Hasan said recovering classified loans would be a priority for the bank in the current fiscal year.

He said agriculture, SME and retail sectors would be given preference in new loan disbursement, while new agent banking outlets and sub-branches would be opened across the country to ensure access to banking services for unbanked people.

The Mercantile Bank managing director added that digital banking services would become easier and smarter through innovative products in the coming days.
