Naila Nayem alleges harassment over clothing

Popular model and actress Naila Nayem has expressed her anger by describing an unpleasant incident that recently happened to her.

She claimed on social media that a man pushed her away and made offensive comments about her clothes while she was buying vegetables at a local market in Savar.

In a post on her verified Facebook account on Monday night, the actress wrote, “Is this a free country? Answer me? Everyone who knows me personally knows how modestly I dress. It should be noted that I am an apolitical person.”

In the post, Naila said that she was standing on the side of the road with her mother at a local market in Savar to buy vegetables when a middle-aged man wearing a hat and a beard suddenly came up and pushed her with both hands.

She said, “A 42 to 45 years old man with a beard and a hat pushed me away with both hands and said, ‘I don’t have a headscarf… Why am I roaming around the market like this without a headscarf?’”

Naila claimed that she fell to the ground before she knew it due to the suddenness of the incident.

As a result, the shopping bag fell from her hand and injured her left hand.

She further wrote in the post, “Before I could understand the suddenness of the incident, my mother pulled me away in an auto.”

The actress also spoke about her mother’s fear.

She said that her mother forbade her from showing any kind of reaction.
