BGB recovers Tk 2.99cr Yaba in anti-drug operation

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large quantity of Yaba tablets during an anti-narcotics operation in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban. A total of 99,940 pieces of Yaba were recovered, with an estimated market value of around Tk 2 crore 99 lakh 82 thousand.

According to 11 BGB sources, acting on a tip-off, a special patrol team from Naikhongchhari Battalion (11 BGB) conducted the operation at around 10:25 pm on Friday (May 22).

The raid was carried out in a brinjal field located on the western side of a mosque in South Moulvi Kata village, approximately 5 kilometers inside Bangladesh from border pillar 46 under the jurisdiction of Jaruliarchar BOP.

During the operation, the team recovered two abandoned bags. Of them, 98,970 Yaba tablets were found in a brown-colored bag, while 970 tablets were recovered from a green-colored bag, bringing the total to 99,940 pieces. However, no arrests were made in the incident.

Regarding the operation, Lt. Col. Md. Foyjul Karim, Commanding Officer of Naikhongchhari 11 BGB, told journalists that BGB operations are continuing to ensure border security, prevent smuggling and human trafficking, control illegal entry, recover illegal arms, and curb drug trafficking.

He further said, “BGB is working under a zero-tolerance policy against drugs. Strict surveillance has been maintained in border areas to prevent smuggling.”
