Nazrul 127th birth anniversary programme begins
The 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam began on Friday with a three-day national-level programme, marking a renewed emphasis on cultural heritage and the poet’s revolutionary ideals.
The opening ceremony started at 5:30pm at the National Theatre Hall auditorium in Dhaka, drawing government officials, cultural leaders, poets and researchers.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan attended the event as chief guest, highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting Nazrul’s literary and musical legacy.
State Minister for Culture Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam joined as special guest, while noted journalist, poet and writer Hasan Hafiz delivered the keynote speech. Nazrul researcher Dr. Engineer Khalequzzaman took part as discussant.
Speakers at the event stressed the need to preserve Nazrul’s ideals of resistance, equality and cultural awakening in contemporary society. They also called for stronger institutional efforts to promote Nazrul’s works among the younger generation through education and cultural programmes.
