‘No alternative to science education, research’
There is no alternative to science education and research for advancing knowledge, intelligence and innovative capacity in today’s competitive world,” said National Parliament Whip Rakibul Islam Bakul.
He made the remarks at the inauguration of the three-day divisional science fair and the 47th National Science and Technology Week, held on Friday at the auditorium of the Khulna Divisional Commissioner’s Office.
He said rapid developments in science and technology are making modern life increasingly advanced and prosperous, and stressed the need to use mobile phones not merely for communication and entertainment, but also as effective tools for nation-building.
The whip also underscored the importance of protecting children and adolescents from drug abuse and the misuse of mobile technology, calling for efforts to raise them as science-minded, ethical and responsible citizens. “A nation affected by drug addiction and distorted thinking can never build a smart and developed country,” he said.
He added that the current government is working to establish a knowledge-based society where citizens will contribute to national progress through education, research and skills development.
Divisional Commissioner of Khulna Md Abdullah Harun presided over the function. Special guests included Md Rezaul Haque, Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan and Hure Jannat.
The welcome address was delivered by Additional Divisional Commissioner (Education and ICT) Sifat Mehnaz.
Around 60 stalls from 10 districts under Khulna division are showcasing science- and technology-based innovations and ideas at the fair.
The fair will remain open to visitors every day from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
