Dooley to be Coach of Bangladesh Football team

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is not appointing former Wales Coach Chris Coleman due to complications over additional agent fees and commission demands. BFF President Tabith Awal said on Tuesday, Coleman is now out of their calculations due to additional agent fees and they are turning to alternative candidates.

So who will be the Head Coach of the Bangladesh national football team? The question is now swirling in the minds of football fans in the country.

BFF’s shortlist now includes Germany’s Bernard Stork and the United States’ Thomas Dooley, another German Coach, Michael Niese, Spain’s David Doniga and Argentina’s Juan Vita. But Thomas Dooley is more likely to be appointed as the new Head Coach of Bangladesh football team.

The 63-year-old Stork reportedly wanted a lower salary than Coleman. BFF want to appoint Stork if Coleman is not available. A responsible source in the BFF said, BFF is more interested in Thomas Dooley. He was the former Coach of the Guyana national team and defender who led the USA in the 1998 World Cup in France.

The national team management committee met in a meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss about the Coach. Most of the members voted in favor of appointing Thomas Dooley. But no final decision has been made yet. Everything will be finalised within the next two days.

Thomas Dooley played for the USA from 1992 to 1999. He was a regular in the team at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and Captained at the 1998 World Cup. He played 21 games for Bayer Leverkusen in Bundesliga during his club career.

Dooley also played for German clubs FC Hamburg, Schalke. FK Pirmasens, and Kaiserslautern. He later played for professional clubs in the USA, including the Columbus Crew and MetroStars. In September 2025, Dooley was appointed Head Coach of the Guyana national team.
