Mahila Parishad demands safety of women and children

The Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, Kishoreganj unit, held a protest rally in the town protesting the rising incidents of sexual violence, torture, and brutal treatment against women and girls.

The rally, organized in front of Param Chattar (Syed Nazrul Square) on Tuesday noon, demanded the safety of women and children in schools, colleges, universities, madrasas, homes, and public places.
The district president of the Mohila Parishad, Advocate Maya Bhowmick, presided over the protest rally.

It was addressed, among others, by Atia Hossain, Advocate Hamida Begum, Kamrunnahar, Saiful Islam Jowell, and Enamul Haque Master.

Advocate Maya Bhowmick said that women, girls, and even boys are insecure in the country. Children are not safe anywhere whether at home, in educational institutions, public transport, or public spaces. She said violence is taking a horrific turn day by day due to a culture of impunity and social degradation.

She further said that the sensitivity of the state, family, and society towards violence against women and girls is gradually decreasing. According to her, only 3 percent of such cases are prosecuted in the country, while the remaining 97 percent go unpunished.

She alleged that long-standing impunity, mob violence, and the politics of revenge are dehumanizing society.
