Bidisha Ershad gets 2-year jail term

A court has sentenced Bidisha Siddique – former wife of ex-President Hussain Muhammad Ershad – to two years of rigorous imprisonment in a fraud case related to the sale of a flat. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamsed Alam. The case was filed at the capital’s Gulshan Police Station by a businessman.

Alongside the prison sentence, Bidisha was also fined Tk 10,000, with an additional one month in jail if the fine goes unpaid. Plaintiff’s lawyer Hemayat Uddin Khan (Hiron) stated that since Bidisha is a fugitive, both a sentence warrant and an arrest warrant have been issued against her.

The case dates back to 2008, when a businessman named Mosharraf Hossain Sikdar filed the complaint at Gulshan Police Station, alleging that he was defrauded in connection with the sale of a flat at President Park in Baridhara.
