4 suffer burns in Shantinagar mall fire

Four people sustained burn injuries in a fire, reportedly caused by an electrical short circuit, at Eastern Plus Shopping Complex in the capital’s Shantinagar area late Tuesday night.

The injured were identified as Sohrab, 20, Shamim, 18, Sujit Das, 28, and Monayem Hossain, 33.
They were taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment soon after the incident.

Resident Surgeon Dr Shaon Bin Rahman said the victims suffered inhalation injuries from smoke exposure.

He said two of the injured were admitted to the hospital while the others were kept under observation in the emergency department.
