Tigers sniff victory against Pakistan

Bangladesh Cricket team were on the brink of victory after taking seven wickets for 316 runs of Pakistan on Day 4 of the second Test cricket match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Pakistan have only notable batter Mohammad Rizwan who was on the crease before the bails were drawn for the fourth day. The Tigers’ bowlers dominated the visitors.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam was the day’s highest wicket taker and also captured the most valuable wickets.

Taijul Islam captured four wickets in the space of 113 runs, while Nahid Rana grabbed a couple of wickets in lieu of 58 runs and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up one wicket for 62 runs.

Bangladesh need just three wickets on the fifth and final day, while Pakistan need 121 runs to win, which is an impossible task for the touring side.

Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal resumed their second innings with the over-night score of naught respectively.

Promising pacer Nahid Rana gave his team early breakthrough as Abdullah Fazal (6) was caught at the gully by Mehedi Hasan Miraz off the right-arm speedster when Pakistan’s score was just 27.

Mehedy Hasan Miraz hit as Azan Awais (21) was trapped leg before wicket by right-arm spinner when the tourists’ score was 41 for the loss of two wickets.

After Azan’s departure, Shan Masood and Babar Azam built a remarkable partnership scoring together 92 runs in the third wicket stand before Babar Azam was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Taijul Islam when Pakistan’s total was 133 for the loss of three wickets.

Babar hit a polished 47. His 52-ball innings was belted with four fours and a sixer.

Nahid Rana struck as Saud Shakeel (6) was caught behind by Litton Das off promising pacer when the visitors’ score was 154 for the loss of four wickets.

Taijul Islam hit as Shan Masood was caught at the short leg by Mahmudul Hasan Joy off left-arm spinner when Pakistan’s total was 162 for the loss of five wickets.

Shan Masood hit a captain’s knock of 71. His 120-ball knock was laced with eight fours.

After Masood’s dismissal, Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan mended their innings putting together 134 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Salman Agha was bowled out by Taijul Islam when the touring side’s score was 296 for the loss of six wickets.

Salman Agha notched up a splendid 71. His 102-ball innings was decorated with six fours and a sixer.

Taijul Islam struck again as Hasan Ali (0) was caught at the first slip by Najmul Hossain Shanto off left-arm spinner when Pakistan’s total was 304 for the loss of seven wickets.

Mahammad Rizwan remained unbeaten with 75. His 134-ball knock had eight fours.

Sajid Khan remained unbeaten with eight runs.
