Drainage overhaul urged to end Dhaka waterlogging
Coordinated drainage and sewerage development projects must be accelerated to provide Dhaka residents relief from chronic waterlogging, Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.
Speaking at a review meeting on the ongoing development activities of Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation on Monday, the minister stressed the need for sustainable and long-term solutions to modernise the capital’s civic infrastructure.
The meeting focused on improving drainage facilities, expanding safe drinking water supply and developing a modern sewerage network across the city.
Fakhrul, also Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, directed the relevant agencies to work in close coordination to ensure uninterrupted supply of safe water and timely completion of all development projects while maintaining quality standards.
He said city dwellers should quickly benefit from the ongoing initiatives aimed at making Dhaka a more liveable and modern city.
Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hassan, DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam, project directors and senior officials attended the meeting.
