MASTUL to distribute Qurbani meat to 50,000 families
Ahead of the holy festival of Eid-ul-Adha, MASTUL Foundation has launched a large-scale Qurbani initiative to distribute meat among nearly 50,000 underprivileged families in Bangladesh, Gaza and Sudan.
The organisation said the programme aims to support low-income and vulnerable communities, including war-affected refugee families in Gaza and crisis-hit people in Sudan.
According to the foundation, the distribution activities will be carried out in Dhaka and several remote coastal and disaster-prone areas across Bangladesh.
The organisation said all Qurbani procedures would be conducted in accordance with Shariah principles while ensuring hygienic processing, preservation and distribution of meat.
Chief Operating Officer of the foundation Farhana Yasmin said the spirit of Eid-ul-Adha reflects sacrifice and humanity.
“There are many families in society for whom Eid is the only time of the year they get to enjoy a proper meal.
We want the joy of Eid to be shared by everyone, not limited only to those who are financially well-off,” she said.
She added that the organisation is working to deliver Qurbani meat to people living in disaster-prone and underserved areas across the country, while continuing humanitarian support for the people of Gaza.
Chief Executive Officer of the foundation Abu Mohammad Kamruzzaman said the programme has made Eid more meaningful for thousands of families over the years.
“That is why we have planned to expand the programme further this year so that we can reach even more people,” he said.
He also described Qurbani as not only a religious ritual but also a symbol of social responsibility and called on affluent individuals to participate in the humanitarian initiative.
The foundation said the three-day Qurbani programme would be implemented through volunteers and local representatives to ensure quick and organised distribution of meat.
Priority will also be given to underprivileged children, orphans, madrasa students and their families.
