Stolen cattle meat supplied to Dhaka shops, 3 held
Three people have been arrested in connection with a cattle robbery case in Sirajganj after police found that meat from the stolen cattle had allegedly been supplied to several super shops in the capital, Dhaka, following a year-long investigation. One of the three arrested suspects gave a confessional statement before the court.
Ali Aslam, Officer-in-Charge of Solanga Police Station, said that a businessman named Amanullah from Chattogram had purchased 14 bulls from northern districts and was transporting them to Dhaka by pickup van ahead of Eid-ul-Adha on April 17, 2025.
According to police, when the pickup reached the Sirajganj-Bogura highway area at night, a gang of robbers intercepted the vehicle using a truck.
The robbers allegedly tied up the driver, helpers, and cattle handlers before transferring the cattle to their own truck and fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, a case was filed with Solanga Police Station against unidentified persons.
The OC said cattle robber Ripon alias Hasan was arrested from his locality last Wednesday (May 13) with the help of information technology.
When he was produced before the court on Thursday, he gave a confessional statement under Section 164, revealing sensational details about the gang’s involvement in highway cattle robberies and the supply of beef to super shops in Dhaka.
The statement was recorded by Judicial Magistrate Omar Farooq of the Salanga Thana Amli Court.
Based on information provided by Ripon, police later arrested meat supplier Zia Hossain and his associate, butcher Abdul Alim, from their respective areas on Thursday.
The arrested persons are currently in jail, while efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused involved in the case.

Abdullah of Bachamara village under Daulatpur Upazila in Manikganj; Zia Hossain, 45, son of Zulmat Khan of the Enayetpur area under Ashulia Upazila, who allegedly supplied meat to super shops; and his associate, butcher Abdul Alim, 42, son of Golzar Sekhar, originally from Mohanganj village under Pabna Upazila and currently a tenant in the Gorpid Mazar area of Ashulia Upazila.
