Nine more children die of measles

Nine more children died from measles and measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the 24 hours from 8:00am on 11 May to 8:00am on 12 May, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 1,105 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide. Among them, 87 cases were confirmed as measles through laboratory tests.

According to DGHS data, at least 68 children have died from confirmed measles infections so far this year. In addition, 356 children have died after showing symptoms consistent with measles.

Between 15 March and 12 May, a total of 7,024 measles cases were confirmed through laboratory testing.

The latest DGHS health bulletin said 51,567 suspected measles cases have been identified across the country. Of them, 32,877 patients have already been discharged after receiving treatment.

Health authorities are continuing surveillance and treatment efforts as hospitals report a rising number of children with measles-like symptoms.
