IGP calls for greater discipline, dedication
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has reiterated that any police officer found guilty of involvement in drug use or trafficking will face strict action, with no leniency.
“Drugs are a major threat to our youth and the nation’s future,” he said, adding that the Bangladesh Police are working with utmost dedication and efficiency to address this challenge.
The IGP made the remarks while serving as the chief guest at the IG’s Badge, Shield Parade, Arms and Narcotics Recovery Award Ceremony at Rajarbagh Police Lines on Tuesday.
Reflecting on the force’s history, he acknowledged that over the past 17 years, the police were often used as a mercenary force, which created a disconnect with the public. “Since then, we have gradually restored our image and strengthened discipline within the force,” he said.
Paying tribute to the police members who played a pivotal role during the Liberation War and to those who sacrificed their lives for the welfare of the people, the IGP said that the award-winning officers continue this tradition of courage, dedication, and professionalism.
He encouraged all members of the force to perform their duties with even greater commitment for the betterment of the country.
During the ceremony, 341 police officers were awarded the “Police Force Exemplary Good Service Badge-2025” for their outstanding service from 1 March 2025 to 28 February 2026.
Police units were also recognised for their success in illegal firearms and narcotics recovery operations.
Among the top performers in firearms recovery were Chittagong District Police, Cox’s Bazar District Police, and Rajbari District Police across various groups.
In narcotics recovery, Mymensingh District Police, Brahmanbaria District Police, and Lalmonirhat District Police topped the rankings in their respective groups.
In the Shield Parade competition, the Joint Metropolitan Team secured first place, followed by the APBN and Industrial Police teams.
The IGP concluded by expressing hope that the honoured officers will continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, serving as an example to their colleagues.
He congratulated all award recipients and wished them a bright future.
