Crime drops to zero at Ctg Port outer anchorage
Armed robberies and burglaries have significantly declined in the Outer Anchorage area of the country’s main seaport, Chattogram Port.
As a result of timely and coordinated steps taken by the Port Authority, the Bangladesh Navy, and the Coast Guard, law enforcement agencies have ensured enhanced security in the area, significantly improving the image and reputation of Chattogram Port at both national and international levels.
The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) is currently implementing effective measures to ensure the security of both domestic and foreign vessels at the outer anchorage.
It has been made mandatory for specially trained “Port Watchmen,” appointed by the Port Security Department, to be deployed on every vessel at the outer anchorage.
These trained personnel are engaged in round-the-clock security duties on ships.
The Executive Magistrate and Security Department of the port are regularly conducting mobile courts.
Patrol operations are being carried out in coordination with the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
To prevent any untoward incidents, round-the-clock information exchange has been ensured between the Navy, Coast Guard, and Port Security Department.
Strict surveillance of vessels at the outer anchorage is being maintained from the port control room through the modern VTMIS (Vessel Traffic Management and Information System).
In addition, effective coordination with the Naval Police and regular information sharing with various intelligence agencies are playing an important role in identifying and preventing criminal groups.
Round-the-clock communication is also being maintained between the port authority and all stakeholders, including berth operators, ship-handling operators, shipping agents, C&F agents, transport owners, and workers, to ensure rapid response in emergencies.
The CPA believes that due to these coordinated efforts, the outer anchorage area is now much safer than before.
As a result, confidence among international shipping lines has increased, positively impacting the national economy.
The CPA has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining this strict security system in the future to develop a safe and modern port.
