Another Bangladeshi killed

A 28-year-old man from Kishoreganj has been killed in a drone attack carried out by Ukrainian forces in Russia.

The deceased, Riyad Rashid (28), son of Abdur Rashid of Majhirkona village under Jafrabad Union in Karimganj upazila, was serving in the Russian military, according to family and local police.
Relatives said they learned about his death on Friday night, a week after the incident.

Riyad was the third among four brothers and three sisters. Family sources said he went to Russia in October last year for work and later joined the Russian army on April 7, reportedly without informing his family.

On Friday evening, his friend Limon Dutta informed the family via Messenger about his death. Limon, who was in the same camp, is now hospitalised after losing a leg in a drone strike.

He said that on May 2, a drone attack near the Russia-Ukraine border killed three people, including two Bangladeshis and a Nigerian, while three others were injured.

Family members said Riyad’s father Abdur Rashid is devastated by the news.
Jafrabad Union Parishad Chairman Abu Sadat Md Sayem called the incident “very sad” and said he had inquired about the family.

Karimganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Umme Muslima said she learned about the matter through the local union chairman and that necessary steps would be taken after investigation.
