No harassment of innocents, urges Minister
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that genuine criminals must be brought under the purview of the law, while law enforcement agencies must remain on the highest alert to ensure that no innocent person is subjected to harassment.
He made the call in a message issued on Saturday on the occasion of Police Week-2026, to be inaugurated today.
In his message addressed to members of the police force, the Home Minister said every police officer must be guided by professionalism and become a symbol of service and public trust. He also urged them to ensure maximum cooperation so that victims receive proper legal assistance.
“The genuine criminals must be brought under the purview of the law, and utmost caution must be exercised so that no innocent person falls victim to harassment,” he said.
In a separate message, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) said efforts are under way to enhance the technological capacity and modernisation of the police force, with the aim of making policing more people-friendly, dynamic and accountable.
The IGP stated that this year’s theme for Police Week has been set as: “My Police, My Country, Bangladesh Above All.”
He added that the police, as a service-oriented force, aim to stand by the people and provide sincere and dedicated service to ensure public safety and trust.
