Child killed in auto-rickshaw crash in capital

A child named Jannati was killed after being struck by a battery-operated auto-rickshaw in the Kamrangirchar area of the capital on Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 3:00pm in Lane No. 7 of the Sylhetibazar area.

According to eyewitnesses, the child was playing beside the road when a speeding battery-powered auto-rickshaw hit her, leaving her critically injured.

Locals immediately rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead around 3:45pm.

Jannati’s father Mustafa is a day labourer. Although their hometown is Mominpur in Jamalganj upazila of Sunamganj district, the family had been living in Lane No. 7 of the Sylhetibazar area in Kamrangirchar.

Inspector Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed the death and said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue and the concerned police station has been informed.
