Nipun seeks legal safeguards for women

Several women, particularly those from poor, marginalised and vulnerable backgrounds, are still struggling with severe hardships, stressing that legislators should go beyond merely raising these concerns and work to secure lasting legal remedies, newly elected BNP Member of Parliament from the reserved women’s seats Nipun Roy Chowdhury has said.

She made the remarks after paying tribute to BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in the capital on Tuesday.

“We are not going to Parliament as ornaments. We are going to speak for the people and bring their real-life issues to the parliament,” she said.

She underscored the need to build legal awareness from childhood, noting that steps will be taken to help children become familiar with the principles of law and the Constitution from an early stage.

“We will prove that women are not limited to women’s issues. We will speak on education, healthcare, administration and local government. We will be part of decision-making and help rebuild the nation,” she said.

She expressed gratitude for being entrusted with the responsibility and thanked the party’s top leadership, including Tarique Rahman, for placing their confidence in her.

She said the ideals and political direction of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia continue to inspire her, especially their leadership in movements against authoritarian rule.

She also said the country’s future politics must be steered by public welfare and national interests.
“We believe BNP will not take any decision against the interests of the people of Bangladesh. That is where our confidence lies,” she added.

Leaders of Dhaka district and Keraniganj BNP, and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and other associate bodies were present on the occasion.
BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy was also present.
