Biman signs Tk37cr Boeing deal for 14 new aircraft

Biman Bangladesh Airlines today signed a landmark agreement with US aircraft manufacturer Boeing to purchase 14 aircraft, marking the largest fleet expansion in the national carrier’s history.

Under the deal, Biman will acquire eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, and four Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft.

The estimated value of the agreement stands at around $3.7 billion, or Tk 37,000 crore.

The first aircraft is scheduled for delivery in November 2031, while the remaining jets are expected to be delivered gradually, with the final shipment arriving by October 2035.

The signing ceremony was held in Dhaka, where Biman Managing Director and CEO Kaizer Sohel Ahmed signed on behalf of the airline, while Boeing Vice President Paul Righi signed for the manufacturer.

Senior government officials, diplomats, and aviation stakeholders were present at the event, including Civil Aviation State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and US Ambassador Brent T Christensen.

Speaking at the ceremony, Boeing said the deal will make Biman one of the few global airlines operating the full Boeing 787 Dreamliner family, enhancing its long-haul and regional capacity.

The 787-10 aircraft will be used on high-demand routes such as the Middle East, while the 787-9 will serve long-haul destinations including Europe and North America.

Boeing also highlighted that its 787 and 737 families offer up to 20 percent better fuel efficiency compared to older-generation aircraft, along with improved passenger comfort and advanced cabin features.

The deal is being seen as a major step in modernising Biman’s fleet and expanding its international operations.
