Govt intensifies nationwide security to maintain law
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed speaks Parliament that the government has intensified a wide range of coordinated security measures across the country, including anti-crime drives, stricter highway surveillance, expanded police patrols and increased use of technology, as part of its efforts to maintain law and order.
Replying to a starred question in the House on Tuesday, the minister says Bangladesh Police is implementing various operational strategies in line with government directives to ensure public safety and curb criminal activities nationwide.
He says regular and special drives are being conducted on the basis of intelligence reports to recover illegal firearms, explosives and narcotics, while legal action is being taken against offenders.
Salahuddin says checkposts have been set up at important points on roads and highways and both day and night patrols have been reinforced to prevent crime.
Visible police patrolling coupled with enhanced intelligence monitoring is also continuing to prevent theft, robbery and mugging, he says.
The home minister further says public involvement in maintaining law and order has been strengthened through beat policing, community policing and open house day programmes.
He informs Parliament that the use of modern technology in crime control is also being expanded, noting that CCTV cameras installed at key points and wider application of information technology are helping law enforcers identify criminals and bring them to justice.
Salahuddin says police members are receiving modern training at home and abroad as part of ongoing capacity-building efforts.
He also says the Case Data Management System (CDMS) is being used to preserve records of cases and criminal incidents, which is assisting investigations and improving case management.
