2 arrested after attack on trader in Fakirhat

Locals have arrested two robbers who stabbed a raw materials trader indiscriminately and robbed him of money in Fakirhat Upazila of Bagerhat district. The incident took place in the Sukhdara area under Piljanga Union of the Upazila on the Khulna-Mongla Highway.

Raw materials trader Akbor Hossain (23), who was seriously injured in the stabbing, was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. He is the son of trader A. Razzak Sheikh (36) from Rampal Upazila in the same district. The father was also injured in the attack.

The arrested individuals are Md. Mizanur Rahman Sheikh (36), son of the late Eskan Sheikh of the Islamabad area under Rampal Upazila, currently residing in Burigangni under Mollahat Upazila of Bagerhat district, and Mahedi Hasan, son of Omar Faruq from the Chaksree area under Rampal Upazila.

Police and locals said that on Tuesday (April 21) around 5:00 AM, trader Abdur Razzak and his son Akbor Hossain were traveling from Rampal to Khulna in a van to purchase wholesale raw materials.

When they reached the Sukhdara area under Fakirhat Upazila, a group of 4-5 robbers arrived on two motorcycles, stopped them, and attacked the father and son while attempting to rob them at knifepoint.

At one stage, the robbers severely injured the son in several parts of his body and managed to flee on motorcycles after snatching Tk 45,000 in cash.

Hearing their screams, locals rushed to the spot and chased the robbers. Two of them were caught, beaten by locals, and later handed over to Fakirhat Police Station.
