Central Shari’ah Board Inaugurates 3rd Batch of CPSS Course

The Central Shari’ah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh (CSBIB) officially launched the tutorial classes for the 3rd batch of the Certificate of Proficiency in Shari’ah Standards (CPSS) program. The CPSS is a prestigious certification introduced by the Bahrain-based Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).

The inaugural ceremony was held virtually via the Zoom platform last night at 9:00 PM.

The event featured high-profile academics and financial experts who emphasized the growing need for specialized Shari’ah education in the banking sector:

Chief Guest: Professor Dr. Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah, Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University, Bangladesh, and Chairman of the Shari’ah Advisory Council of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

Special Guests: Professor Dr. Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Islamic Arabic University.

Principal Dr. Md. Anwar Hosain Molla, Vice-Chairman of the Central Shari’ah Board.

Dr. Muhammad Amir Hussain, former Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank and faculty at United International University.

Expanding Islamic Finance Education

During the session, speakers praised the Central Shari’ah Board’s initiatives and urged the organization to expand its academic reach. Key proposals included:

Launching Diploma, PGD, and Master’s programs in Islamic Finance and Banking alongside existing certifications like CPSS, CPAAGE, and CPFAS.

Strengthening collaborations with institutions such as Islamic University (Kushtia), Islamic Arabic University, and **United International University.

In response to these suggestions, the Central Shari’ah Board announced that it will soon launch a Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance. Professor Dr. Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah assured that Islamic University, Bangladesh, would provide full cooperation for this upcoming initiative.

The ceremony saw participation from several industry leaders, including Md. Zulqarnain (Director, National Bank PLC), Professor Dr. Md. Zohirul Islam (Dhaka University), and various senior officials from Bangladesh Bank, BSEC, Prime Bank, Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, and Mutual Trust Bank PLC.

The program was jointly moderated by Dr. Syed Sakhawatul Islam, Vice-President of the Central Shari’ah Board, and Course Coordinator Md. Ruhul Amin.
