Tauquir’s 6 decades celebrated by colleagues

Tauquir Ahmed is a popular actor and director in Bangladesh. He has been spreading his light in three mediums – stage, TV and film – for more than four decades.

He is renowned in both acting and directing. His 60th birthday was on March 5. On this occasion, his colleagues have organised a celebration of Tauquir Ahmed’s six decades of stories.

A day-long event titled ‘Tauquir Ahmed after Six Decades: Our Culture and Artiste’s Responsibility’ is being organised by ‘Suhrid’ at the capital’s Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on April 19. The event will include seminars, exchange of views, and screenings of films and stage plays.

The event is being organised in collaboration with the Actors’ Equity Bangladesh, an organisation of television actors.

The event will begin with an opening ceremony at the National Theatre at 10:30am. After that, a seminar titled ‘Our Culture and the Responsibility of Artistes’ will be held at the seminar room of the BSA at 11:30am.

Directors, artistes and organisers from the cultural field will participate in it. On the occasion of the seminar, director Amitabh Reza Chowdhury wrote about Tauquir Ahmed’s film, while Masum Reza wrote about the stage play directed by Tauquir Ahmed.

The film ‘Aggatonama’ directed by Tauquir Ahmed will be screened at 4:00pm in the main auditorium of the National Theatre Hall of BSA. There will be an open discussion after the screening. The actors, directors and guests will participate in it. At 7:30pm, the stage play ‘Tirthayatri’ directed by Tauquir Ahmed will be staged at the same venue.

The play will be staged by the drama troupe Natya Kendra.
Regarding the entire event, actor Ahsan Habib Nasim, convener of the event celebration council, said, “We want to remember Tauquir Ahmed’s multi-dimensional creation and work. To this end, we, his friends and colleagues, have taken this initiative together. It is hoped that other artists will also be inspired by this tribute to him.”

Tauquir Ahmed is happy with such an arrangement by his colleagues. He thinks that when a person’s work is celebrated, it provides inspiration. He said, “I think that for any person, his work is the real thing. When his work is noticed, it is very inspiring. Whether my work is exhibited, evaluated or criticized – it is always a joy. If such an arrangement is held regularly, it will not only inspire artists, but also increase their sense of responsibility. Such an arrangement increases the responsibility of an artist. On my behalf, I thank everyone for such an arrangement.”
