CJ relaxes mandatory courtroom dress code
In response to growing health concerns due to the ongoing countrywide heatwave, the Chief Justice has relaxed the mandatory dress code for judges and lawyers in subordinate courts across the country.
The Supreme Court administration issued a notification on Tuesday following the Chief Justice’s directive, reports media.
The notification said, judges of all subordinate civil and criminal courts and tribunals will no longer be required to wear black gowns.
Instead, they may appear in black coats paired with white full-sleeve shirts or white sarees or salwar kameez, along with a white neckband or black tie, as applicable.
Lawyers have also been granted similar relief. They are now exempt from wearing black coats and gowns and may appear in white full-sleeve shirts or white sarees or salwar kameez, accompanied by a white neckband or black tie.
The directive takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
