Five more die as measles spreads

Five more people have died from suspected measles in the 24 hours up to 8 am on Monday, bringing the total death toll in Bangladesh to 118, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
During the same period, 1,282 suspected measles cases were reported nationwide.
Of these, 180 patients were admitted to hospitals, taking the total number of hospitalised suspected patients to 5,940 since March 15, 2026.
Speaking in Parliament, Md Sardar Sakhawat Husain, Health and Family Welfare Minister, attributed the recent surge in measles cases to gaps in vaccination coverage and mismanagement by previous administrations, including the immediate past interim government.
The minister emphasised the importance of strengthening immunisation efforts to prevent further deaths and contain the outbreak.
