Dhaka’s temperature may rise to 40–41.9°C

A heatwave is currently sweeping over at least 22 districts of the country, making daily life unbearable amid the intense heat of the Bengali month of Chaitra.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has said that the humid conditions have increased discomfort, and this situation may persist for several more days.

According to the Met Office forecast, several more spells of heatwaves may occur across the country, including the capital Dhaka, throughout April.

Among these, at least one severe heatwave could push temperatures up to 40–41.9 degrees Celsius.
In a long-term forecast signed by the Director and Chairman of the Expert Committee, Md. Mominul Islam, it was stated that there is a possibility of two to four mild to moderate heatwaves and one to two severe heat waves during the month. However, the average day and night temperatures may remain close to normal.

The department also issued a warning regarding sea conditions, stating that one to two low-pressure systems may form over the Bay of Bengal, one of which could intensify into a depression or even a cyclone.

Additionally, there is a risk of Kalbaishakhi (nor’wester) storms throughout April. The forecast mentions 5 to 7 days of light to moderate storms, including hailstorms in different parts of the country, and 1 to 3 days of severe storms.
