Govt withdraws 5 envoys from foreign missions
The government has withdrawn five Bangladeshi envoys from their postings at foreign missions.
In a statement issued today (8 March), the foreign affairs ministry said four ambassadors appointed on a contractual basis have been withdrawn from their respective missions in Portugal, Poland, Mexico, and the Maldives.
The envoys are M Mahfuzul Haque, Mainul Islam, M Mushfiqul Fazal (Ansarey), and Nazmul Islam.
In addition, Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Abida Islam, has also been withdrawn from her post and transferred to the ministry’s headquarters.
Earlier, yesterday (7 March), speaking to journalists in London, the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, Humayun Kabir, said, “There is a good news.”
He said that Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to London, Abida Islam, has been recalled to the country.
“The high commissioner, who created divisions through discriminatory behavior and kept the committee of the Bangladeshi community in London divided, who acted in the interests of the Awami League, and who showed no concern for the committee or for Bangladesh’s interests – has now been recalled,” he added. All five envoys have been instructed to report to the ministry in Dhaka, the statement added.
