Jamaat holds rally condemning Khamenei killing

Staff Reporter :

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Sunday held a protest rally in Dhaka condemning the recent US and Israeli attacks on Iran and the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

The rally began at around 3pm at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, where thousands of party leaders and activists gathered to denounce what they described as aggression against Iran.

The programme was addressed by senior leaders of the party, with Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer ATM Azharul Islam attending as the chief guest.

Speaking at the rally, Azharul Islam strongly criticised the attacks carried out by the United States and Israel and condemned the killing of Iran’s supreme leader along with what he described as the deaths of hundreds of civilians.

“This attack is not only against Iran and the Muslim world; it is against democracy, humanity and human rights,” he told the gathering. He said people who believe in democratic values could not remain silent about the incident and must raise their voices against it.

The Jamaat leader also called on the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to take appropriate action in response to the attacks.

Warning about the wider implications of escalating tensions, Azharul Islam said that if the conflict in the Middle East continued for a prolonged period, its effects could be felt globally, including in Bangladesh.

He urged the international community to take steps to halt the war immediately in the interest of global peace and stability.

Several other party leaders also addressed the rally, including Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Publicity Affairs Secretary Motiur Rahman Akand and lawmaker Nurul Islam Bulbul.

They echoed similar concerns over the situation in the Middle East and expressed solidarity with Iran during the gathering.
